1970s ITC Cassette Recorder Repurposed as a Bluetooth Speaker
This 1970s ITC Model 9003 cassette recorder has been given a new life while keeping its unmistakable retro character. As shown in the photos, it retains its original features—the metal cassette door, the classic row of mechanical control keys (including the bright red record button), the checkered black speaker grille, and the fold-up metal carry handle.
The original unit was made in Japan, typical of ITC’s production during this era, known for durable, no-nonsense portable audio equipment.
Since the tape mechanism was no longer functional, the recorder has been converted into a Bluetooth speaker. Inside, it now houses a 12V rechargeable battery, making it fully portable without altering its outward vintage look. A discreet power switch and charging port are integrated into the back panel, while the tone and volume sliders remain part of the original design.
The result is a practical, modern speaker wrapped in genuine 1970s style—an ITC classic updated for everyday listening.
