Vintage Visseaux Portable Radio, Personally Repurposed Into a 12V Bluetooth Speaker

This Visseaux radio has a kind of charm you just can’t fake. Built in France sometime in the late 1960s to early ’70s, it was originally designed to be a trusty little travel companion. And judging by the worn edges, speckled paint marks, and the soft wear on the handle, it’s definitely had an active life. When I first picked it up, that lived-in look immediately caught my attention. It wasn’t perfect, and that’s exactly why I liked it.

I decided to give it a new purpose, but without taking away any of the character it earned over the decades. So I carefully repurposed it myself, keeping the exterior almost completely untouched. Inside, though, it now hides a modern Bluetooth speaker system, powered by 12V and ready for everyday listening. I wanted it to feel like the same old Visseaux on the outside, just with a new heart beating inside.

The chrome trim, the textured black casing, the bold front grille, even the scuffs, it’s all still there, proudly showing its age. That history is part of what makes this piece so special. My goal wasn’t to polish it into something new, but to let it keep telling its story while bringing it back into daily use.
