1950s Philips Bakelite Valve Radio Repurposed as Bluetooth Speaker

This 1950s Philips Bakelite valve radio has been repurposed as a Bluetooth speaker while keeping the original cabinet, dial and knobs intact. The original valve electronics are no longer in use, but the set now connects wirelessly for everyday listening.

It runs on a 12V power supply and still uses the original internal speaker, which gives a warm, clear sound that suits relaxed room listening. Aux port also fitted discreetly at the rear.

The Bakelite case is in great condition for its age, with only light signs of wear. I’ve left the original finish and details as they are so it still looks and feels like the radio it once was.

Overall it remains very much a mid-century Philips in appearance, just adapted to be practical to use now while retaining its original character and sound.
